Job Description


Traega Entertainment is looking for a seasoned artist to champion our 3D environment art creation and world-building pipelines. As the Lead Environment Artist, you will be responsible for owning and creating game worlds from concept to final scenes in-engine.

This is a full-time position in the Nashville, Tennessee area working on a new PC and console franchise. We understand that the COVID-19 outbreak has implications that may delay the ability to relocate for some candidates. The safety of our employees and their families come first, so we will remain flexible about working from home. We will continue to monitor the situation, but the expectation is that you will come and work with us in our new and spacious studio in the Nashville area when it’s safe to do so.


  • Active creative involvement in concept development

  • Creation of AAA benchmark, high poly 3D assets of structures, props, and landscape content

  • Low poly retopo from high poly assets for optimal real-time assets

  • Efficient UV layouts and strategies for low poly assets

  • Surfacing and texturing workup for environment and world assets

  • Develop style guides defining the tone of environments consistent with the creative vision of the project

  • Promote environment art/world-building technologies, workflows, tools, and processes

  • Collaborating with the Design and Tech teams to drive world-building and layout gameplay spaces

  • Collaborate with the Tech Team to establish, educate, and enforce technical content best practices for environment art and world-building strategies

  • Collaborating with studio Principal Artist and Tech Team to facilitate overall lighting and performance profiles and strategies

  • As Lead, mentor and train artists for continued development and growth of the team’s skills

  • Manage, schedule, and organize prioritized deliverables in conjunction with the Production Team

  • Oversee outsource process for environment art related content

  • Heavy collaboration across other disciplines within the studio



  • Proficiency in the industry-standard software packages such as Maya, ZBrush, Photoshop, and Substance Painter

  • Firm understanding of PBR workflow for real-time shaders and lighting large scale environments

  • Proficiency in Unreal Engine 4 including material and blueprint scripting

  • Strong understanding of level creation methods and technical strategies

  • Highly self-motivated with autonomous and proactive sensibilities

  • Experience leading a team of artists

  • Portfolio that demonstrates:

    • AAA quality content examples and breakdowns

    • Varieties of environment art authoring strategies

    • Strong spatial sense and an eye for composition

    • Advanced understanding of lighting, composition, and set dressing



  • Shipped titles in Unreal Engine 4

  • Shipped titles on Sony PlayStation®, Microsoft Xbox, and/or Nintendo Switch™

  • Experience with advanced software packages such as Substance Designer, Quixel Suite, Houdini, World Machine, etc.

  • Strong sense of level design, scale, and gameplay flow

  • Architecture, cinematography, or traditional art background
